Activities

In its efforts to facility learning processes towards mutual understanding and sustainable peace, Crossing Borders designs and implement the following activities.

  • Crossing Borders Global Studies focusing on the core dimensions of globalisation and how globalisation is experienced by different communities around the globe. This course is offered in cooperation with the Krogerup Folkehojskole in Denmark. The course is held in the spring from 11 January thru 13 June and in the fall from 23 August thru 19 December. The spring programme of the course includes ten day study tour to UNESCO and OECD in Paris and the World Food Programme in Rome. The fall programme of the course includes 14 day study tour toTurkey: Istanbul and the Kurdish region of eastern Turkey.The main target group of the course are socially and internationally engaged youth and adults who would like to make a positive difference in their lives and the world around them. For more info: visit: www.krogerup.dk Short training courses, seminars and workshops in conflict management, intercultural communication and media skills designed for youth, young journalists and educators – with special focus on conflict areas
  • two week summer courses in Denmark and short workshops in the Middle East
  • Publication and distribution of the Crossing Borders magazine for and by youg journalists. Produced entirely from articles written by the young journalists, the magazine is distributed in schools, community centres and youth clubs in the Middle East, Europe and the USAamme
  • The development, publication and distribution of teaching materials as direct outcomes of CB teachers’ seminars and workshops. Recently, a manual on using and developing Crossing Borders concept and magazine was published in Jerusalem and online 3500 copies. CB also engages in advocacy, networking, cooperation and coordination with public and civil society institutions working toward intercultural dialogue, understanding and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
  • Consultancy services, training and lectures, reports and articles on dialogue and peace for public and civil society organisations.

 

The contents of CB courses and seminars

The contents comprise intercultural communication, conflict management, media, journalism, project development and intercultural pedagogy skills designed for the target group. The courses also contain sharing with and communicating update pedagogical ideas, experiences and aspirations to fellow youth and teachers from different cultural background. They also learn various media, video, poster, drama, roleplay and simulated presentation and public speaking. The programmes give the participants the opportunity to apply their communication and journalism skills in the production of the magazine or teaching materials. In this way, the youth learn how to understand the increasing importance and the power of the media and demystify journalism.
